It’s now October, we’re experiencing cooler weather, and Starbucks is serving up the PSL. Fall is here.
At the beginning of a new season, I usually take the opportunity for a little retail therapy and add a few new items to my arsenal, but before going out and to shop all the new arrivals, take time to assess what you already have. This is especially needed if you’re an impulse buyer (like me).
The key to a sufficient and successful Fall wardrobe lies in having items that are easy to layer, can be dressed up or down as the need arises, and have versatility in how they pair with other items. To help me pare-down, I’ve made a list of what I need (and mostly already have) to carry me through the season. This list is comprised of what I’d consider to be the basics, but remember—basic doesn’t have to be basic.
Let’s begin…
2. Blouse with Feminine details—think embroidery, lace, crochet, etc.
3. Chambray top
4. Plaid button down
5. White button down—find one with a high low hem, ruffles, pleats, or subtle stripes
6. A blouse with an interesting neckline—tie or bow, mockneck, or turtleneck…they’re all “in”
7. Girlfriend or boyfriend jean
8. Boot cut or flare jean—the first is classic and the second is trendy
9. Corduroy pant
10.Fitted dress pant
12.Denim skirt—the button front trend is great for fall
13.Pencil skirt
14.Shirt dress
15.Sheath styled dress—my pick is a fit & flare faux green leather dress
16.Tunic dress
17.Chunky sweater or cardigan
18.Basic black, cream, or grey sweater—cropped, classic, or oversized
19.Black blazer
20.Olive green jacket
21.Vest—sleeveless blazer, faux fur, quilted or puffer
22.Loafers
23.Black heels
24.Tall boots—invest in a pair that will last you season after season
25. Booties—feel free to have some fun with these, whether with fringe or a fun color
26.Ballet Flats
27.Sandals—we all know that the weather can be unpredictable, so until it’s frigid cold, my toes are going to see some sun
28.Printed handbag
29.Crossbody purse
30.Chic clutch
31.Neutral tote
32.Belt
33. Scarf—can’t go wrong with plaid
34.Hat
35.Statement necklace
This is my list, so be sure to put your own spin on it! If something doesn’t work for you, swap it for something that fits your lifestyle.
