#AsSeenOn Sienna Miller

If you’re looking for some outfit inspiration, seasonal magazines (past or present) are a great resource. Or try a Pinterest search for “street style” outfits.

Once you find one that fits your aesthetic, take a look at what you have to work with in your closet. Make do with what you have already. Don’t hit the mall or the web in search of copycat items.

While you probably won’t be able to recreate the outfit exactly, here are some things to focus on:

  • Structure
  • Silhouette
  • Color Combos
  • Necklines & Hemlines

Mimic the shape of the look, the peices layered over one another, the colors choices, etc. and put a unique spin on your version.

For example, I had a sleeveless nude blouse, a pair of black Zara cigarette jeans, and cut-out shootie slingbacks that I used to recreate this Sienna Miller look features in the Sept. 2015 issue of In Style.

I focused on color and fit, but tucked the blouse in the front so my legs would appear longer.

For makeup, I kept it natural with a pop of red on my lips.

I opted for a gold bag instead of tan, because that would have been to matchy-matchy. And this exercise is all about making it your own, right?

If you’re looking for more tips on how to recreate outfits, J’s Everyday Fashion has frequent posts inspired by other posts, magazine editorials, or Pinterest posts. I’m not really into her everyday style, but like to see how she makes a look her own while trying to copy someone else. And most are really affordable versions.

The next time a promotional catalog for H&M, JCrew, etc. arrives in your mailbox, look through it for an outfit you can copy instead of buy.
